Man of Steel- 7 Years Later
When Man of Steel was first released back in 2013 the initial response was, needless to say, mixed. Kelly Vance of East Bay Express had this to say of the film "There's nothing very astonishing about this, despite layers upon layers of effects."
Ann Hornaday of the Washington Post said, "For now, audiences can only speculate as to the hidden depths of Cavill, who in Zack Snyder's busy, bombastic creation myth is reduced to little more than a joyless cipher or dazzling physical specimen."
While the CW's "Smallville" told a lengthy orgin of the Man of Steel, it was too grounded in mythos and fantasy. Yes, the iconic television series is fun and brilliantly entertaining, but what it lacks, is real world substance. Snyder, tenaciously shows us how ou world would potentially react if we were introduce to the reality of a genuine Superman. This I believe, is the brilliance of his vision.
Together, both Snyder and Cavill brought a sense of realism to the character of Superman that had never previously been bestowed upon us. While much of the world was comparing Cavil's portrayal to the iconic Christopher Reeves or the short-lived Brandon Routh, the rest of us were left contemplating the morality and essence of the film.
My belief is that appreciation and understanding of Man of Steel will continue to grow as it has in the last few years.
Currently, Man of Steel sits at a 56% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, while resting at 75% audiences score on the same site.
