Love and Monsters (2020)

Love and Monsters

Love and monsters is a post apocalyptic love story about a boy, lost in desiderium and desire. Traveling many unsafe miles of monster infested lands trying to find his one true love. A love that would make the world feel normal again. It's The End, after a nuclear fallout transforms bugs and animals into monsters. Adjusting to life after "The End" can be hard. When you are separated from the girl you love in a normal world can feel like nothing but miles between you, but when those miles are blocked by everything that wants to kill you the miles feel that much further.

The cinematography in this movie is amazingly done. Use of a very light and vibrant colours, and heavy contrast, the scenes are painted to matched the tone of the humour perfectly. A variety of imaginative creatures and situations, the movie's progression is a very enjoyable ride, as to keep you interested without overwhelming. The voiceover brings a little bit more personality to the movie, without breaking the third wall.

The soundtrack to this movie is by far neutral, with no big label songs from this decade. Giving the movie a very unique feel and personality.  There are alot of elements in this film that just fit. The casting of Dylan O'Brian as the leading man, is a great example of things just falling into place. He brings a presence of playfulness, ambition and survival. Leaving just enough mystery, while keeping a certain depth.  A film the whole family can enjoy, Love and Monsters was a great piece of cinema, that I hope gets the recognition it deserves.

Sometimes we take the love we have for granted, and sometimes the love we want goes unrequited, but at the end of the day we must always follow our hearts, and let ourselves be swept away by the adventure. "Don't settle, you don't have to, even at the end of the world."
