Mulan (2020)

So movie lovers, let me start by saying, I was so excited about this release. When I heard that this movie was getting a live action remake, I immediatly went back to watch the original. How could I not be excited for this movie. No Music...? No Mushu?? Nooo Way!!! There is no way that this movie could take anymore hits than that. Then Corona happened. The Box office release, was stolen from this film, but thankfully, our friends at Disney+ had our backs with a at home release, and at 6.99/mo isnt a huge price point to pay. But our good friends at disney are no stanger to seazing an opportunity and added the extra charge of 29.99 to access this as a rental, for lack of a better term. You do not get to keep this title. At around 38$, just to stream, was just too steep for me. So I for one who was furloughed from my job, this movie, while a quite acceptable piece of cinema, in my opinion, was not worth the price they are trying to get.

That being said, Lets get to the movie.
In an age of more traditional values, a father a father is happy to see his daughter's natural skill, "chi". but the rest of the town looks down on her because this is not how a young lady should act,. She will never make a good wife living her life in such a way. Her Father tells her to hide her gifts.
When war breaks out Mulan disguises as a man to save her father from going to fight another battle they fear he will not come back from. A Phoenix guides her though this time of danger to keep her safe, and training starts to unlock and hone her chi.
There is no greater power than knowing yourself and being true to that nature.

Overall this was a great movie with some great cinematography.

now some things I didnt really agree with in this movie, was a few things,
The Phoenix was more of a vision than a guide. Where mushu was more of a companion. I wish Mulan wasn't so isolated, but it did add a little depth to her having to hide who she really was. Now there was no singing in this movie, but the original soundtrack had some instrumental versions that made appearances in this film, i did enjoy the nod to the animated, but i felt a different arrangements of the songs would have been a little better. The music felt out of place at time, too modern at other times, and did not flow as well as I might have hoped.

If you are expecting a carbon copy of the animated then you are in for a disappointment, but if you go into this movie with an open mind, you will take away, a father's love for his daughter no matter what, and the sense that you can accomplish anything, if you stay true to your heart.
